i have a few thinkpads which have dolby atmos speakers, including the x1 carbon 5th gen, 9th gen, and the z16 1st gen.
to different degrees each sounds worse on linux than on windows. this is because they lack the windows exclusive driver support...
specifically on the thinkpad x1 carbon 9th gen: on linux (by default) they sound like a tin can (reminiscent of the types of speakers i've come to expect on cheaer mid-2000's laptops). through easyeffects configuration they can be made to sound better. only 2 of the 4 speakers even fire. i'm unsure if this lack of support is directly related to the lack of dolby atmos drivers.
although nowhere near as good as they do on windows. on windows the speakers sound full, loud, and clear.
this is extra dissapointing as many premium laptops/thinkpads are otherwise highly compatible with linux. able to take advantage of haptic touchpads, high refresh rate oled displays, newer wifi, etc. hope you planned to use headphones when watching tv.
